Since the 2005-06 season, the Black Bears are a frigid 11-22 overall at the frozen pond named Alfond. In America East play, UMaine is 8-16 in the same span.
Home record since 2005-06: (Division 1 games only):
2008-09: 1-4 overall, 0-1 America East
2007-08: 2-9, 0-8
2006-07: 3-6, 4-4
2005-06: 5-4, 4-4*
Total home record: 11-23, 8-17
Suggestion: Put a new floor in The Pit and start playing the games there as soon as possible. No reason to wait for the renovation. If and when the renovation happens, go back to the ice box for a season.
*Includes a 58-55 loss to BU at Memorial Gym.

I agree with you. It's not like there is much of issue with demand for seats. So why not move back to the Pit? It would be much more of a home court advantage. Heck, they practice in the Pit so maybe the shooting percentages would improve. UMaine can't be turning a profit with 1100 fans attending games at Alfond. Far less staff would be needed at the Pit (less heads on the books). Makes sense to me. I love watching games in the Pit. I remember some classic moments from my childhood, when the "Pit Idiots" filled the area behind the basket. The game we lost to USM sticks out in my mind. During halftime A cheerleader went off the top of a pyramid and no one was ready to catch her. Wham! Flat on her back and carried out on a stretcher. They did beat Michigan State the next home game at the "Mecca" which made the season.
